De reeks onderzoeken werd vandaag verder gezet. Gelukkig waren het er niet meer zoveel vandaag. De orthopedist is langsgekomen en heeft een paar testen gedaan. Alixe kan wat ze moet kunnen in vergelijking met kindjes van haar leeftijd (op een lijn lopen, op één been staan,...) maar bij alles wat ze doet kijkt ze steeds naar haar voetjes. Dit is volgens de arts te wijten aan het feit dat haar proprioceptie gestoord is. De diepe gevoeligheid is er niet. Als wij onze voeten neerzetten voelen we het contact met de grond, Alixe niet of veel minder. Dat verklaart ook waarom ze zoveel valt. Als ze aan het spelen is, vergeet ze te kijken wat ze doet en dan stuikelt ze over haar eigen voeten. Deze polyneuropathie is hoogstwaarschijnlijk nog steeds het gevolg van de chemotherapie die Alixe kreeg ter voorbereiding van de stamceltransplantatie. In januari is dit al twee jaar geleden maar het herstel van zenuwen gaat nu eenmaal erg traag.
Alixe heeft ook nog X-benen maar dit zou nog binnen de grenzen van het normale liggen. Alle kleuters hebben dat. Door de chemo zou het mogelijk zijn geweest dat de groeischijven in haar knieën beschadigd waren. Dit schijnt dus niet het geval te zijn.
Kort na de middag mochten we 3K6 weer voor een hele tijd achter ons laten. Het deed raar om er weer een nachtje te zijn. Al die nieuwe patiëntjes, andere mama s die in het keukentje of op de gang elkaars gezelschap opzoeken om hun verhalen of angsten te delen met elkaar. Ik voelde me een buitenstaander maar dat vond ik in dit geval helemààl niet erg... .
Alixe en ik zijn ook nog eens een kijkje gaan nemen bij de ploeg van de bestralingen. Daar werd ze onmiddellijk herkend en het gedicht dat we ooit maakten, hangt daar mooi ingekaderd. Vele mensen lezen het en sommigen schrijven het naar het schijnt over. Dat is goed, als mensen er zich door gesteund of geïnspireerd voelen, heeft het gedichtje er een extra dimensie door gekregen.
Volgende week mag ik bellen voor de uitslagen van de onderzoeken. Omdat ik van de specialisten geruststellende informatie gekregen heb, ben ik er eigenlijk vrij gerust in.
